Paper has been produced in Neu Kaliss since 1799. Where the first paper mill once stood, there is now a modern company called Neu Kaliss Spezialpapier. In 1992, the Melitta group of companies acquired the production facilities. With the newly founded company, Neu Kaliss Spezialpapier GmbH, Melitta continues the papermaking tradition at the Neu Kaliss site. Today, the company specializes in the production of specialty papers and nonwovens for industrial use as well as converters and marketers of paper products. The nonwovens offered include in particular wallpaper nonwovens, electrically conductive nonwovens and solar nonwovens. In the paper products sector, Neu Kaliss produces and processes specialty paper, including coffee filter paper, beer and cup doilies, crepe papers for the dental sector and for large bakeries, milking papers and evaporator papers. In the wallpaper nonwovens market, Neu Kaliss Spezialpapier is one of the five largest suppliers worldwide.
