Iberdrola is a leading global energy company, number one in the generation of wind energy and one of the largest electricity suppliers in the world in terms of market capitalization. With its so-called Baltic Hub (Viking in operation with 350 MW, Baltic Eagle under construction with 476 MW, Windanker in planning with 300 MW) off the Baltic Sea island of Rügen, Iberdrola will produce green electricity for the German energy transition at least until 2026. Taken together, the offshore wind farms will have an installed capacity of more than 1.1 GW, supplying over 1.1 million households in Germany with green electricity. This is roughly equivalent to the total energy requirements of private households in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the process, Baltic Eagle alone will avoid CO2 emissions of around 800,000 tons per year. Iberdrola is investing around 2.5 billion euros in the construction of the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm alone.
